Gwynedd Mercy University and Immaculata University Partner to Prepare Future Speech-Language Pathologists

GMercyU’s Frances M. Maguire College of Nursing and Health Professions has partnered with Immaculata University to prepare future speech-language pathologists. The partnership is designed to provide undergraduate students at Immaculata a direct pathway to GMercyU’s Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MSSLP) program.

As part of the agreement, GMercyU will guarantee an admissions interview to Immaculata undergraduate students who complete admissions criteria and apply to the MSSLP program. Admissions criteria includes the completion of a minor in Communications Disorders or a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Science with a Pre-Speech-Language Pathology concentration. Students must also hold a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

“We are very excited to connect our two academic communities to expand educational opportunities for students who wish to become speech-language pathologists,” shared Karen Fallon, PhD, CCC-SLP, Director of Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program.

GMercyU launched its SLP Program in fall 2024 in response to the growing need for speech-language pathologists. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has reported faster than average growth for speech-language pathologists, with projected growth of 18 percent between 2023 and 2033. Also, according to U.S. News & World Report, Speech-language pathologists rank as the #3 job in healthcare and #10 job overall in on its Best 100 Jobs list for 2024.

In addition to the MS SLP Program, GMercyU offers a Speech-Language Pathology Prerequisite (SLPP) Program. This program is a one-year online program that prepares students to meet the admissions curriculum criteria for GMercyU’s MS SLP program well as for other speech-language pathology graduate programs with similar requirements.
